Meet Louise Day, founder of Root & Balance, where acupuncture meets glowing skin & soothing sound

In a world where women are so often told what they can’t or shouldn’t do, I believe in saying yes! Life’s all about balance — and I created Root & Balance as a space where you can say yes to wellbeing, yes to beauty, and yes to yourself.

“For me, it’s about letting go of what we can with grace, finding our way forward with joy, and remembering that true medicine should always nurture both healing and happiness — inside and out.”

My journey into acupuncture began through my own experiences with health and fertility challenges. Feeling constantly tired, I decided on a whim to pop into a Chinese acupuncture clinic. The practitioner took my pulses and looked at my tongue — which I thought was very odd at the time — before explaining that I had low Kidney Energy. I had no idea what that meant, but I was intrigued. During the treatment, she gently suggested that I remove my belly piercing — a request I resisted, because I loved it. Little did I know it was blocking the flow of energy along a meridian connected to fertility… who knew! Yet after just a few sessions, I felt amazing — I was hooked. The rebel in me kept my belly piercing for a while longer, but my curiosity about how and why acupuncture worked only grew stronger.

What began as a personal journey toward healing soon opened the door to a new chapter, and I enrolled in a three-year degree in acupuncture. Just before starting, I found out I was pregnant with my son — the icing on the cake and a beautiful reminder that the body really does know how to find balance when given the chance.

That was 17 years ago, and since then my practice has evolved into a truly holistic approach — weaving together acupuncture, beauty, auricular therapy, and sound healing. I wanted to create a space where the world slows down, the breath deepens, and your body remembers how to heal. Every treatment is rooted in the wisdom of Chinese Medicine and guided by the belief that our physical and emotional wellbeing are deeply connected.

And because balance isn’t just about what’s happening on the inside, it felt only natural to bring my love of beauty back into my work. Let’s be honest — as we move through all the stages of life, us girls still want to feel good. And why shouldn’t we? Looking after yourself isn’t indulgent — it’s essential. My earlier training as a Beauty Therapist at the London College of Fashion inspired me to create facials that not only nourish and rejuvenate the skin, but also work from the inside out. By blending Traditional Chinese Medicine with advanced skincare techniques, these treatments restore balance, boost radiance, and leave you feeling truly refreshed.

On the more official side of things — I hold a BSc (Hons) in Acupuncture, am a licensed acupuncturist and proud member of the British Acupuncture Council, and complete over 30 hours of CPD each year to keep my practice fresh, current, and evidence-based (because even ancient wisdom benefits from a modern update!). I also spent four years as Secretary of the Acupuncture Fertility Network, a postgraduate organisation dedicated to advancing excellence in fertility-focused acupuncture, and regularly speak at midwifery training schools, helping to bridge traditional and modern approaches to reproductive health.

I could happily talk about acupuncture all day (and often do!), but I don’t want to overwhelm you. If you’d like to learn more about what I love to treat, I’ve put together a few free resources for you — feel free to download them anytime.
